An Important Message from Superintendent Stephen McCauley

Paris families, please see this important message from Superintendent Stephen McCauley.

August 14, 2020

Good Afternoon Paris Greyhound Families,

Thank you for your patience and support as we adapt and adjust to the ever changing environment impacted by COVID-19.  As you are aware, the Governor and the Kentucky Department of Education have recommended that we not open schools to in-person instruction until September 28th.  We will continue to follow this recommendation.
After receiving feedback from several stakeholders, I am going to make the recommendation to our school board next Tuesday night, to amend the school calendar with the first day for students on September 8th.  This later start date will limit the number of all virtual days that we have with students this year and increase the opportunity for more in-person instruction later in the year.  With September 28th as the targeted start date to open schools back to in-person learning, this new start date will only use three weeks of our school year for full virtual learning instead of five weeks with our current start date.
The days that we are removing from the calendar at the beginning of the year will be added to the end of the calendar in May.  The updated calendar will be available on the district website after the board meeting Tuesday evening.
I am also very pleased to share that every student in our district K-12 will have a chromebook provided by the district to access the Greyhound Academy online.  Additionally students in our preschool that need a device will have one provided to them.  Individual schools will be communicating with families about distribution of chromebooks as well as orientation opportunities.
Finally, we will continue to provide meals to all students in our district free of charge.  Breakfast and lunch pickup will continue at the Fine Arts Center on 7th Street and we will expand the availability to our families.  More details will be shared in the coming days.  If you have questions please reach out to your child’s school or call our central office at 859-987-2160.  We are looking forward to a great school year.

Thank you,

Stephen McCauley
