Paris Announces Academy of Health Science (AOHS)
|
Paris High School is excited to welcome its first class of students into the Paris Academy of Health Science (AOHS) in the fall of 2012. This academy has been created through the National Academy Foundation (NAF). Paris will be one of eight high schools in the state of Kentucky with an academy, and the only health science academy.

| The mission of the NAF is to sustain a national network of career academies to support the development of America’s youth toward personal and professional success in high school, in higher education, and throughout their careers. The mission of the Paris AOHS is to provide students an understanding of health science in order to make informed career decisions. Paris AOHS students will develop the academic knowledge and career skills needed to achieve personal and professional success. Paris is pleased to partner with Maysville Community College and multiple health professionals in our community in order to make this academy possible. Paris AOHS and Paris Promise Program Announce Summer Medical Camp
| Mark your calendars! On August 9-10, 2012, Paris will host "Medical Camp 2012". This two day camp is sponsored by AOHS and the Promise Program. Cost for the camp is $10. Surplus Equipment / Vehicle
Paris Independent Schools have declared the following as surplus equipment and will be accepting sealed bids until 10:00 am. on May 30, 2011. Bids should be delivered to Paris Schools Central Office, 310 W. 7th St. during business hours. The successful bidder will be notified.

The property can be examined at 310 W. 7th St anytime between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday prior to May 30, 2011.
Band Room Named in Honor of Mr. Phil Grigson

| Congratulations to Mr. Phil Grigson who is retiring after twenty-seven years as the Band Director at Paris High School. In honor of his dedication and service, the Paris Board of Education approved a petition by the Paris Band Boosters Organization to name the band room in Mr. Grigson's honor. Band boosters and former band students, Mr. Chris Jones and Mrs. Jennifer Allen, made the presentation on behalf of the boosters after Wednesday's band concert. Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Held for Paris Garden

| A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Tuesday, May 8, 2012 to officially launch the newly expanded Paris Independent School Garden and recognize grant funders. On hand for the ceremony were Paris Independent Superintendent Gary Wiseman, School Board Chairman Mike Tucker, members of the School Garden Task Force, Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky staff and board members, and Kentucky Environmental Education Council Executive Director and Staff. Band Presents Spring Concert and Honors Mr. Grigson

| The Paris Music Department celebrated the career of Mr. Philip Grigson on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at 7:30 p.m. in the Siwicki Center for Fine Arts Auditorium. The Paris Middle School Advanced Band and Paris High School Symphony Band presented a spring concert with a reception following. Former students were featured as guest conductors and guest performers. Former band booster presidents were also recognized. | Retired Lt. Colonel Kenneth T. McFarland, a World War II veteran, served as the grand marshal for the fourth annual 'Parade of Cadets' in Millersburg on Saturday, April 21, 2012. Lt. Colonel McFarland is the great grandfather of Paris Middle School eighth grade student and Cadet Corp member, Cadet Sgt. Matthew Puryear. Dates Set for Preschool Screenings

Preschool screenings will be held May 21, 2012 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Call 987-9127 to schedule a screening. All 3 or 4 year old children who plan to enroll in preschool for the 2012-13 school year should contact Mrs. Virtie Kirby at the above number to schedule a screening.

High Expectations for Students
Paris Independent Schools has a long history of providing an excellent education for the children of Paris. Our goal is for all students to graduate with a strong foundation in education as well as life-long appreciation of learning. All Paris schools meet the accreditation requirements of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Paris High School has been accredited since 1915. All teachers have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited program as required by state law. The majority of our staff have master degrees or above.
