Principal's Message

Welcome to the Paris Middle School Webpage.  My name is Stephanie Harmon and I am so excited and proud to be the new principal at Paris Middle School. I look forward to leading the Middle School Greyhound Family, continuing to build upon the great history of the Paris Independent School District and establishing new traditions that exemplify what it means to have "Paris Pride."

I have worked in the public school system for 14 years, including 7 years in school and district leadership roles. Most recently I was the Assistant Principal and Professional Growth and Effectiveness Coach at Glendover Elementary school in Fayette County.  Prior to that, I worked as a District Multi-Tiered System of Supports Coach for Middle Schools and High Schools with a primary focus on Response to Intervention.   Before working in Fayette County, I proudly served as the Academic Dean at Garth Elementary School for 4 years and as a Special Education Teacher and Team Leader at Georgetown Middle School for 7 years. 

I attended the University of Kentucky where I earned my undergraduate degree in Health Education with a minor in Family Studies.  I then obtained my Master’s Degree in Learning and Behavior Disorders from Georgetown College and my Rank 1 in Instructional Leadership from Eastern Kentucky University. I met my husband while attending UK and we just celebrated our 16 year Wedding Anniversary in July.  We have two children: Kennedy Reese (11) and Savannah Grace (9).  If I'm not at school, you can bet I am either at a soccer field with Kennedy or a swimming pool with Savannah!

I absolutely believe that all students can learn at high levels, but that does not mean that that level is the same for all children. Students learn at a variety of speeds and they learn and master different subjects in different manners and at different times. What is important for an educator to know and understand is where their students are at any given point in time, where they need to be, and what they can do in order to help them get there. 

I feel that the key is to set high expectations for each student through an individualized and personalized approach to goal setting and instruction. As educators, we should be able to pinpoint our student’s instructional levels and then discuss with them what we hope to accomplish over the course of the school year and set a goal based on those expectations. We then have to look at student learning styles and their current level of mastery in order to design instruction and teach them strategies to help them meet their goals.

There is no one size fits all approach that is going to work for every student. If there was, we wouldn’t be sitting around discussing ways to close achievement gaps and teach students to mastery. Instead, we have to look critically at our practices and do what is best in order to meet the unique needs of each of our students. If we are able to do this and maintain high expectations for student growth and achievement, then we will pave the way to help them all learn at high levels that are appropriate for their needs.

I want your child to grow and develop academically as well as socially while at Paris Middle School.  I pride myself on being a welcoming and open-minded individual.  If you should have questions, comments or concerns please know that my door is always open.
